2009 Ford F-150 6R80
Complaint: Transmission in failsafe, setting codes P0731, P0723, & P0783
Cause: The transmission had 2 separate problems. The first problem was the 4,5,6 clutches "E" clutches had delaminated friction material. The second issue was the tone ring came loose from the output shaft ring gear.
Correction: Replace the defective friction disc and replace the ring gear.

Additional Notes: The vehicle owner first started noticing that the truck was starting to flair going into 4th gear and this was from the friction disc issue and was the reason for the PO783 code. The second part of this issue was the PO723 and PO731, this was due to the tone wheel becoming loose and then eventually coming loose completely from the ring gear.
